Let’s talk about the history of MUJI in Thailand.

About MUJI (Thailand)

MUJI was founded in 1980. Its origin was a thorough rationalization of manufacturing process with an eye to creating simple, low-cost and good quality products without brand. As a word “MUJIRUSHI RYOHIN(Good product without brand)” described.

In 2006, MUJI entered Thailand for the first time by “Central Department Store” under Central Group as a franchise. MUJI’s first branch in Thailand is at Central Chidlom.

After the BOI(The Board of Investment of Thailand) has adjusted the rules that facilitate foreign investors to invest in Thailand more easily, the parent company of MUJI, Ryohin-Keikaku Co., Ltd. has joined hands with the Central Group in 2013. This led to the investment in establishing “Muji Retail (Thailand) Co., Ltd.” with a registered capital of 520 million baht from the vision that Thailand is one of the key bases of the Southeast Asian market.

Since the establishment of “Muji Retail (Thailand)”, the company has always been profitable. The details are as follows.

2014 Total revenue 458.8 million Baht / Profit 36.9 million Baht

2015 Total revenue 544 million Baht / Profit 51.4 million Baht

2016 Total revenue 723.2 million Baht / Profit 92.4 million Baht

2017 Total revenue 871.3 million Baht / Profit 71.2 million Baht

2018 Total revenue 1,018.8 million Baht / Profit 79.7 million Baht

2019 Total revenue 1,144.7 million Baht / Profit 71.5 million Baht

2020 Total revenue 638.7 million Baht / Profit 23.2 million Baht

You can see that in 2020, during the year of COVID-19 pandemic, income has dropped a lot. Profits have also dropped a lot, but, MUJI still continues to open new branches, not only with Central Group.

MUJI revealed that the items that generated the most sales were clothing at 50%, followed by household goods at 48% and food at 2%.

Lastest brance ‘MUJI The EmQuartier’

MUJI new branch at The EmQuartier is the 26th branch in Thailand with a store size of over 1,500 square meters, the third largest after Samyan Mitrtown and Central Chidlom branches. It covers almost the entire 2nd floor of the EmQuartier’s Building B.

This large branch is one of MUJI’s ‘Big Size strategy’ to support consumer demand. There are more than 3,000 products. There is also a cafe zone like MUJI Coffee Corner, a coffee corner where sweet and salty foods are sold.

MUJI stated that Next year, MUJI also plans to open its largest store in Thailand as flagship store with an area of around 3,000 square meters.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-format="autorelaxed"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-7067224727750648"
     data-ad-slot="1956001306"></ins>

Facebook

X

Hatena

Pocket

Before we talking about “MUJI The EmQuartier”.
