[Thailand] BTS sky train fares increase to 17-47 Baht starting on January 1st.

On the 30th of November. CEO of the Bangkok Mass Transit(BTS), Mr.Surapong Laoha-Unya, announced that their train service on the Sukhumvit and Silom routes will be charged an additional 1-3 Baht starting from January 1st. Which mean, fair will rise from the current of 16-41 Baht to 17-47 Baht between BTS Morchit Station and BTS On Nut station. And also between BTS National Stadium station and BTS Saphan Taksin station.

Fares from BTS On Nut station to BTS Keha station in Samut Prakan remain unchanged. Also with BTS Mor Chit station to BTS Khu Khot station in Pathum Thani, and from BTS Saphan Taksin station to BTS Bang Wa station still remain the same price.

BTS Ceo Mr.Surapong declared that, since BTS started its service in 1999, the price has been adjusted for only 3 times. Latest adjustment taking effect on October 1st, 2017. From 15-42 Baht to 16-44 Baht. Concession contract allow company to adjust fares every 18 months. The maximum price of ceiling fare in contract is between 21.52 and 64.53 Baht.

He claimed that the company has agreed to delay imposing the higher rates because they are fully aware of effects which would occur on commuters. But it is necessary to take an adjustment owing to the increasing of fuel price, electricity, labour and inflation around the world and Thailand. BTS currently operates maximum of 98 trains in service.

One-day riding pass ticket rise from 140 to 150 Baht. Senior citizens are still eligible to get a 50% fare discount both on single trip and Rabbit users.
